Our EPDM membrane can genuinely claim to have a life expectancy in excess of 50 years. Its slate grey in colour and is fully BBA certified. No joins are required if the roof is no longer than 9 metres in any one direction. If the rubber does require joining for example where it is more economical to use two pieces for L shaped roofing, using jointing tape and primer the two pieces can be joint, giving a joint as strong as the material itself.

We guarantee our roofs for a period of 20 years and the supplier has a product guarantee of 25 years.

Advantages of EPDM roofing.

·         EPDM waterproof membranes are permanently flexible and have a life expectancy of at least 50 years.

·         EPDM is highly resistant to UV and infra-red light, without the need of additional surface protection.

·         EPDM offers exceptional resistance to the effects of weather, environmental changes and aggressive industrial emissions.

·         EPDM is extremely resistant to heat, cold ozone and aging.

·         EPDM give off no toxic emissions in the event of fire and the membrane is suitable for thermal recycling even after being laid for many decades.

·         EPDM is extremely elastic, with no shrinkage or dimensional changes over a temperature ranging from -40 to +120 degrees centigrade.

·         EPDM is considered to be an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional methods.

Problems with Traditional Felt.

There are many properties that incorporate flat roofs in the form of garages, dormers, porches, balconies and extensions (sometimes called add-ons). Some buildings are even entirely covered with a flat roof although most of these are commercial properties.

Traditionally flat roofs were covered with felt which sooner or later start to leak or breakdown due to natural weathering.

Roofing felt breaks down naturally over time weather. For example felt may blister in the heat and crack in the cold.

Damp and puddling in the felt is a major problem and caused by a build-up of moss and lichen, this can be worse of roofs covered with ballast or chippings.

Felt gradually breaks down which allows water to penetrate between layers, if that water was then to freeze the expansion of the freezing process can cause more cracks. This could in turn cause a serious leak.

Felt is brittle in the winter and crack if weight is put on the roof during the winter months. This could be simply caused by your window cleaner standing in the wrong place while he cleans your windows.

Felt roofs can cause insurance problems. Many companies will not pay out for roof repairs if a roof is under ten years old as it is seen as a warranty issue. Some insurance companies will not pay out for contents if they have been damaged by a leaking flat roof.
